Paragon Kicks Off the School Year with Art Display by Memphis Oral School for the Deaf

09-06-16

Paragon Bank is kicking off the school year with an exhibit featuring artwork created by Memphis Oral School for the Deaf students. The art will be on display in the lobby of the Saddle Creek Banking Center (7600 Poplar Avenue) throughout the month of September. This exhibit is free and open to the public.

“The students and faculty at Memphis Oral School for the Deaf are always such a joy to work with,” said Robert Shaw, Chief Executive Officer at Paragon Bank. “We are honored to be able to display their students’ art, and share their tradition of creating butterflies with the community.”

Paragon worked with Ginger Ragan, Development Associate at Memphis Oral School for the Deaf, to organize the display. The students used a variety of media, such as paint, construction paper and tissue paper in their creation of the butterflies. Students make butterflies each year, and it’s inspired by the school’s tradition of releasing one at the graduation ceremony.

The artwork was created by MOSD students Elana Brewer, Jamari Dowdy, Addison Ledesma, Nora Prosser, Madison Ray, Cylas Taylor, Kaidence Taylor, Nathan Windle, Mason Holman, Owen Millar, Ryker Nabors, Lewis Gaw, Olivia Greene, Kase Hayes, Marlee Morris and Jordyn Whitaker.

About Memphis Oral School for the Deaf

Located in Germantown for more than 50 years, the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf works to empower deaf children all over the Mid-South to listen, learn and talk. Instead of sign language, the school uses speech and language therapies and audiological services in conjunction with preschool classes to help profoundly deaf and hard-of-hearing children. These techniques help children, ages birth to six, develop the necessary listening and spoken language skills to be a part of a world of sound. For more information, visit www.mosdkids.org.
