Paragon Grants Seventh Wish for Child

06-18-12

Paragon National Bank recently partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Midsouth for the seventh time to grant the wish of a child in Memphis. At least 38 Paragon employees volunteered their time and resources to make the bank’s Fountain Place location fit for a princess in honor of nine-year old Sheyla, whose wish was to have a complete room makeover. She has plenty of options, from nursery wall decals to paint and even custom beds.

“It’s enormously rewarding for our employees to play a part in such a special day for Sheyla and her family,” said Robert Shaw, Chief Executive Officer of Paragon National Bank. “Make-A-Wish is a tremendous organization and we look forward to granting many more wishes in the years to come.”

Sheyla arrived at the bank with her family for what she believed was a karaoke contest, only to realize that the event was for her. After competing against three other contestants in Paragon Pop Idol, Sheyla was declared the winner and escorted to a room for a special princess costume change. After donning her pink princess gown and tiara, Sheyla was greeted by a prince and taken on a horse-drawn carriage ride with her family and friends outside the bank. Following the carriage ride, Sheyla played a life-size version of the Pretty Princess game and won many special prizes including a princess dress, tiara and crown, pillows for her new room, nail polish, bath bubbles and other spa items, as well as a spa day for Sheyla and her mother.

After the Pretty Princess game, it was revealed that Sheyla’s wish would be granted and she would receive a newly designed bedroom featuring a special Disney World princess canopy bed, a princess chandelier, a beaded curtain over her closet door and life-size princess stickers for her walls.

“This event was such a success and truly perfect for Sheyla,” said Ashley Clark, Development Coordinator for Make-A-Wish. “You could tell she really felt like a princess and was very deserving of all the special attention that Paragon employees gave her. We’re very grateful for Paragon’s continued support of Make-A-Wish.”

Paragon was able to grant Sheyla’s wish with additional support from several area organizations that include Carriage Tours of Memphis, Eden Spas, Malco Theatres, Inc., Monograms by Cie, Miss Collierville and Miss Teen Collierville.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Founded in 1980 when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is one of the world’s leading children’s charities, with 64 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and nearly 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 200,000 wishes in the United States since its inception.
