Paragon Employees Deliver Homemade Blankets to Patients at Le Bonheur
11-01-13
Paragon National Bank employees recently delivered 12 homemade blankets to patients staying at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Bank employees made the no-sew blankets during Employee Appreciation Week through Paragon’s Assisting the Community Through Service (ACTS) program. The ACTS program allows each employee a week of paid time off per year to support the local, regional and national nonprofit organizations of their choosing.
“The Blankets for Le Bonheur initiative has become a much-loved annual tradition during Employee Appreciation Week,” said Robert Shaw, Chief Executive Officer at Paragon National Bank. “Our employees always look forward to making the blankets together, as well as delivering them to the hospital and visiting with patients. We hope our blankets provide the patients some comfort during their stay at the hospital.”
While at Le Bonheur, Paragon employees visited the hospital’s 11th floor and Bunny Lane, a place patients visit before surgery to select a toy to help take their minds off their upcoming procedure. During the visit, employees Donna Bain, Kim Brown, Penny Hill, Haley Overcast and Tracey Thesmar met several patients and delivered the blankets. The bank worked with Le Bonheur’s Volunteer Services Coordinator, Timorie Stewart, to organize the blanket delivery, as well as schedule a tour of the facility after the blanket donation.
“We treasure our volunteers like those at Paragon,” said Stewart. “Their gift of hand-made blankets provides children with warmth and comfort at a time of stress and uncertainty. When children are calm and comfortable, they heal faster and are able to return to their regular routine more quickly. These blankets help tremendously.”
