Josh Miller, Vice President for Commercial Lending at Paragon National Bank, recently completed a fundraising run among the four Paragon branches to help raise the necessary funds to join the Team in Training® battle against Leukemia and Lymphoma.
The run began at Paragon’s Saddle Creek location, continuing to Paragon Place (Poplar and Massey), the St. Francis branch and ultimately ending at the Fountain Place headquarters. Along the way, avid friends and supporters cheered him on, as the Paragon film crew recorded the event and posted it to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLewgH5UPpQ).
“Josh initially asked if we could do a ‘casual day’ to help him raise funds for his race,” said Robert Shaw, President and CEO of Paragon National Bank. “Since he was raising funds for a race, we thought it would be better to incorporate running in the fundraiser. We had no idea how well the idea would be received, or how much the Paragon team would get behind him.”
Through collections from employees and customers at each of the four Paragon branches, Miller was able to raise more than $1800 toward his goal of $2,000. He will be running the half-marathon in Nashville April 26, in memory of his wife’s grandmother, Mary Lou Yearwood (Nanny), who died in August 2007 after a long battle with Leukemia.
“After Nanny’s battle with Leukemia, I really wanted to do something for the others suffering from this hideous disease,” said Miller. “After some initial training and a foot injury, I was about to give up. But a letter from my sponsored patient, Jordy, really kept me going. The support of my friends and coworkers has been unbelievable.”
With both Paragon and individual fundraising efforts, Josh has raised more than $2,500 to date.
